An unpleasant surprise this Friday morning for members of the Cotatay Valley Conservation and Protection Association in Chambon-Feugerolles. These enthusiasts discovered around twenty dead fish on the surface of the Carrot Basin, located in the Silardière industrial zone. These fish were mainly white fish and predators. Firefighters intervened to carry out surveys, and the Chambon-Feugerolles municipal police also responded. According to initial findings, although the water is very dirty, the presence of hydrocarbons has been ruled out.

"There seems to be a lack of oxygenation in the water due to the drought and the proliferation of algae," the fishermen say, while a few dead species had already been spotted on Thursday. "But this morning, it's a massacre." The pond was lacking water and the millrace had only recently been restarted. The association is trying to maintain the pond as best it can and regrets that "the major resources are not being implemented" by the local authorities to truly clean the site. The pond is three meters deep, but the fish actually only swim in one meter of water, the rest being essentially mud.
